Salsa ala Carla

My kids always love the jarred salsa coupled of course with their favorite chips. I must agree that it really is good because we can finish a jar in just one sitting. I always want to provide for them the snack that they enjoy having, but it’s not practical to purchase salsa from the grocery store every week. So I thought of making my own instead, because I will not only save money, but it would also be healthy for them. I have this Mexican cookbook that has been lying for a long time, so I made use of it as one of my references for the recipe. I browsed the internet as well to get some more ideas. Here’s the ingredients for the home-made salsa which I collated from different sources:


  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 Medium Yellow Onion, diced
  • 10-12 Medium Red Tomatoes, diced
  • 6-8 Pcs. Jalapeno or Sword Pepper
  • 1/2 Cup Fresh Parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. Dried Oregano
  • 1 Tbsp. Lemon or Calamnsi Juice
  • Salt & Pepper to Taste
  1. Boil 1 cup of water in a pan with the Jalapeno or Sword pepper for 5 minutes, set aside and dice.
  2. Saute onion in olive oil until the onion is translucent, add the garlic.
  3. Remove excess olive oil from the pan. Add diced tomatoes and pepper, stirring constantly until the juice from the tomatoes come out.
  4. Add fresh parsley and dried oregano.
  5. Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste; pour the lemon or calamansi juice.

Remove from the pan after 10 minutes, let it cool before putting it inside the fridge. Serve cold with the chips of your choice.

Now, I don’t have to buy their favorite jarred dipping sauce because  my kids liked my very own Salsa ala Carla.
